Hands of the Earth

There are days when you can tell that something truly special is happening. The day I took this photo was one of those times. This was taken at our local elementary school at their very first Earth Day celebration. Who knew that one day's activities could completely change the face and environment of an entire community?

The work day was originally scheduled for Saturday but the weather was TERRIBLE. So the following day everyone trudged out in the boots to begin planting the Virginia Native Wildlife Habitat. The running joke of the day was how incredibly muddy EVERYONE got. I spent half the day talking photos of muddy hands and shoes!

I love this photo - I'm disappointed if we get to the end of the day and my toddler isn't dirty from outside play.
